Did you know Gov. Hochul has the power to create thousands of units of affordable housing in the Penn neighborhood right now?

The current plan for the surrounding neighborhood is a sweetheart deal for a giant developer and political donor that provides almost no affordable housing. We must demand a better plan, one that reflects New York’s urgent need for housing.

Governor Hochul’s Hoax is one of the great political scandals in New York City history. Her plan would build more than 17 million square feet of expensive office space around Penn Station and override New York City’s zoning laws to hand control of billions-of-dollars-worth of real estate to developer Vornado and its CEO Steve Roth.

The Penn neighborhood is effectively stuck in limbo because the commercial real estate market has cratered and stalled construction. Building owners are unable to renew leases, residents are unable to sell their apartments and negotiate rent, and businesses are dying.

Meanwhile, New York City is facing a housing crisis and Governor Hochul is sitting on one of the most developable pieces of land in the city—which could create thousands of units of new housing.

Neighborhood, good government and housing advocates are calling for an end to the Hochul Hoax during this upcoming legislative session. We will raise awareness about the cost of Governor Hochul’s plan and her loyalty to donors over people, while urging elected officials to demand the State end Hochul’s Penn plan and work to quickly replace it with one that actually delivers what New Yorkers need now.

Take Action Now! Send a Letter to Your Legislators

Use our letter template and tell your legislators to fight for affordable housing and demand that Governor Hochul make a new plan for the Penn Neighborhood!
